Proposed Corrales Tree Preservation Ordinance

Purpose:

Mature trees, especially Cottonwoods, are defining features of the Village of Corrales. Protecting these resources is worthwhile on many levels. In addition to being aesthetically pleasing, trees provide habitat for wildlife and welcome shade from our New Mexico sun. Trees also reduce air pollution, buffer noise and wind, improve home energy efficiency, and increase real estate values. To recognize the significant aesthetic, environmental, and economic benefits to the city of Corrales provided by mature trees, to preserve and enhance the tree canopy of Corrales, to protect our historic specimen trees, and to preserve the distinctive visual character of the Village, the Village of Corrales hereby adopts the following Tree Preservation Ordinance.
